The project is being managed by the community group, Sustainable Kirtlington set up in the autumn of 2007, with the long-term aim of encouraging the village to be as energy-efficient as possible. This includes an education programme, simple individual measures to maximise fuel-efficiency, organising a Footprint Fair (as above) and more ambitious schemes to develop our own sources of renewable energy.

The idea of micro-hydro power generation emerged as a logical extension of the ground-laying work done in the community in the first two years of the group’s existence. This coincided with the mill-owners’ enthusiasm to see the mill restored to its original purpose. The mill-owners are active members of the committee managing the project.
